Finding a high quality tenant takes a lot of time and enegy. The survey found these disturbing findings about DIY landlords:

• Only 44 percent conduct sex offender checks
• Only 66 percent conduct criminal background checks
• 21 percent sometimes or never conduct credit checks
• Only 55 percent contact past landlords for references
